January 1
God Will Guard Your Tongue

Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.
Psalm 141:3

Like a double- edged sword, the tongue can build up or tear down, beautify or destroy, heal or hurt. So mighty a weapon should only be unsheathed by the Master’s hand. Yet how often are we tempted to wield that weapon with just our own wisdom—or lack thereof— to guide us? Through David’s example in Psalm 141, God encourages us to call upon Him to “keep watch over the door of [our] lips.”

With our tongue, we can either curse men or praise the Lord. Choose to fill your thoughts with things which are good and pure and holy (Philippians 4:8). Then consciously let your words reflect those thoughts, bringing glory to His holy name.

January 2
God Shows Us The Right Way

Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses. And He led them forth by the right way.
Psalm 107:6-7

Every day, in both work and play, we are faced with choices, with deciding what to do and which way to go. Some choices are obviously right or clearly wrong, and these are easy to make. But others can be much more difficult, whether it’s because we’re not sure which choice is best or because we stubbornly and selfishly long to go the very way we know is wrong.

But every day, in both work and play, our God is ever before us. When we turn to Him, His Word promises that will He lead us in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake—because God wants to help us. He will guide our thoughts, our actions, our choices. Without Him, we would be lost. But that’s the glorious news, isn’t it? As children of God, we are never without Him. So we need never be lost.

January 3
God Will Keep His Word

He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.
Matthew 17:2

The Old Testament prophets predicted Christ would come in power and great glory. The wondrous events on the Mount of Transfiguration confirmed these prophecies, and that glimpse of Jesus in all His heavenly glory gave the apostles an advance peek into the coming greater glory of Christ’s future kingdom.

The apostle Peter later wrote that we must continue to heed God’s prophetic Word “until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts . . . for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:19, 21). We should always keep God’s Word before us, treasuring its prophecies in our hearts. And the knowledge that God will always keep His word will serve as a light shining in this dark world until Christ comes again in the clouds.

January 4
There Is A Place For You

“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
John 14:2

Think about this truth: there is a place in heaven prepared for you. That’s the promise Jesus, our Lord and Savior, gave to us. In heaven, we will at last find our true home. We will have peace and rest. Never again will we be troubled by pain or sorrow. Every sin, every heartache, every moment of struggle will all be cast away. And we will live forever with God in glory.

Therefore, let us not be bogged down by the worries and weariness that this life can sometimes hold. Instead, let us fill our minds with thoughts of that place prepared just for us. Allow His presence to seep into every corner of our hearts. Choose to live each moment of this day for God—until that wonderful day when we can live each moment with God.

January 5
God Will Give You Peace

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7

Our Father loves us. And because He loves us, He does not want our hearts to be anxious nor our lives to be filled with worry. So He offers us the gift of prayer, asking that we not only accept His gift but use it each and every day. For the more we include God in our lives, the more He becomes a part of everything we say and do.

The Lord has a place and a purpose in His kingdom for each of us—and it is not a place of worry or fear. When we open our hearts to God’s leading, letting Him guide our every choice along the way, He not only shapes us into who He created us to be, but He also fills us with a bold confidence and a peace so great we simply cannot comprehend it.
